Kellogg Canada first to provide kids with the balanced nutrients of an entire meal in one bowl
|
TORONTO, ON, October 24, 2005 Despite the fact that an overwhelming majority of parents think it's important that their children eat a balanced breakfast, almost 60 per cent of Canadian parents indicate that their kids are not getting the balanced breakfast¹ they require on a regular basis, according to a recent national Ipsos-Reid survey conducted on behalf of Kellogg Canada. In support, Kellogg Canada has launched a new and innovative product designed to help boost a child's nutrient intake during the first and most important meal of the day.
Tony's Turboz meal replacement is the first and only food designed with kids in mind to provide the balanced nutrients of an entire meal in one bowl. It is a source of 24 vitamins and minerals including an excellent source of calcium and an excellent source of iron; a good source of protein; contains 22 grams of whole grain; and it has a taste that kids love.
According to the survey, 70 per cent of parents find getting their children to eat a balanced breakfast challenging. When asked what they find challenging, 31 per cent of all parents say their children want to eat the same thing every day and 25 per cent say their kids are picky eaters. Other factors that keep children from getting the balanced nutrients they need in the morning include disagreements over what they should eat (23 per cent) and the fact that a balanced breakfast takes too much time to prepare (15 per cent).
“Parents consider providing kids with balanced nutrition one of their most important responsibilities and are constantly looking for simple solutions to avoid the morning breakfast battle,” says Christine Lowry, VP Nutrition, Kellogg Company, Registered Dietitian. “Tony's Turboz, which comes in a simple, no hassle format, gives parents the peace of mind that their kids are getting the right balance of nutrients they need to nourish their bodies from head to toe.”
Tony's Turboz is ideal for those fast-paced school mornings when there is little time. Kids will love the fun and taste of the lightly sweetened triple-loop shapes brought to them by Tony the Tiger - one of their favourite Kellogg's characters.
“Because kids enjoy the taste and format, it's an easy and fun way to give kids the nutrients they need at breakfast before they head out in the morning,” adds Lowry.
How do the nutrients of your child's current breakfast compare?
Each 40g serving of Tony's Turboz with 3/4 cup of 2% milk provides the balanced nutrients of a meal and contributes to a child's unique nutritional needs. The benefits are clear:
 |
Source of 24 Vitamins & Minerals - The body thrives on vitamins and minerals yet cannot manufacture them on its own. This is why it's important to eat a diet rich in vitamins and minerals to function, grow and develop properly.
Good Source of Protein† - Protein helps build and repair body tissue, like muscle. Tony's Turboz provides 37% of a child's recommended protein intake.
Excellent Source of Calcium† - Calcium is critical for
developing and maintaining strong bones and teeth. Tony's Turboz provides 25% of a child's recommended calcium intake.
Excellent Source of Iron† - A factor in the formation of red blood cells, Tony's Turboz provides 53% of a child's recommended iron intake.
22 g of Whole Grain - Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating suggests choosing wholegrain products more often.

Importance of Breakfast
It's important that children 'break the fast' with some healthy choices in order to maintain optimal levels of energy and remain mentally stimulated. Experts agree that breakfast is important for enhancing children's learning and overall performance. Children who regularly eat breakfast are more alert and perform better on tests. Eating breakfast is also associated with other healthy lifestyle behaviours, including being physically active. In addition, eating breakfast can help children feel satisfied so that they don't reach for less nutritious foods once they get to school or are away from home.
To celebrate the launch of Tony's Turboz, Kellogg Canada is inviting Canadians to share their biggest breakfast battle stories for the chance to win great prizes. For more info, visit www.mochasofa.ca.
